Examination Preparations

Things to know before Istanbul Oncology Hospital gives an example to the laboratory: Laboratory tests go through three stages from sampling to the conclusion. The stage before taking the sample (preanalytical period), the stage where the sample is taken and analyzed in the laboratory (anailytic period) and the stage where the results are reported (postanalytic period). Since the preanalytical period is the period when the sample is not yet taken, nobody but the person giving the sample can control the events here and these situations directly affect the results. Therefore, what should be known before giving an example to the laboratory is given below.

Daily biological rhythm, exercise, hunger, diet, medication, alcohol or smoking affect many laboratory tests. The levels of tests such as glucose, cortisol, iron, vitamin B12, folate, parathormone, TSH, cholesterol and other blood fats play enough to affect the diagnosis of your disease in the morning and afternoon, and also depending on whether you're hungry and full. For this reason, samples should be given in the morning and after 10-12 hours of fasting for many laboratory tests. The term "morning hunger" is used for this situation. Since 10-12 hours of fasting during the day adversely affects laboratory test results, the tests taken after afternoon do not give correct results.
