Lung cancer is the type of cancer that causes the most death in both men and women.

Despite new developments in treatment in the past 20 years, the 5-year survival in all lung cancer cases has changed little (%18 - Only 18 out of 100 patients can survive after 5 years).

 

The most important reason for this is the diagnosis can be made too late. In lung cancer, most patients can be detected when the disease has spread in its area (stage 3) or metastasized (stage 4).

Lung cancer is less than 1 cm according to the 8th staging system and lesions without lymph involvement and metastasis are evaluated as stage1A1. When the disease is diagnosed at this stage and cancer tissue can be surgically removed, the 5-year survival rate can be up to 90%. So the question that should be asked is how can we diagnose the disease in the early stages?

 

Are complaints helpful for Early Diagnosis?

Cough breathlessness, which is common in cases of lung cancer, is thought to be related to other diseases such as cough or smoking, or alarming complaints such as blood spitting, bone pain, referral, and early diagnosis of the disease, making it difficult to diagnose early. 

 

Does Lung Cancer Screening Program (Low Dose Lung Tomography) Help Early Diagnosis?

Studies have shown that in people who do not have any complaints but who are in the risk group because they smoke, the low-frequency lung tomography scan every year increases the early detection rates and reduces mortality rates by 20%.

And yes; with the screening program, a 90% success rate in lung cancer is possible as a result of early diagnosis in Stage1A1.
